It may be a surprise to some, but Mitsubishi Motors has been around for a little over 100 years. Celebrating its 100 Year Anniversary in 2017, Mitsubishi Motors had become a well-known name in the states, but the automaker didn’t make a splash stateside until 1982. Another surprise, the Dodge Colt, with a run-time of 20 years, was a rebadged Mitsubishi vehicle. If we choose to ignore that small detail, then 2022 will mark the 40 Year Anniversary of Mitsubishi Motors selling its first vehicle in the American market, starting with the Mitsubishi Tredia, Cordia, and Starion. Having held multiple locations in the states, and with a brand-new North American headquarters opening, the lineup of vehicles for the 2022 model year are already bringing the automaker success with record-breaking sales.

“Over 40 years, Mitsubishi Motors has grown from a startup import brand to become a household name. We have delivered some of the U.S. auto industry’s most iconic models, we’ve used music as the through-line for memorable advertising, we’ve reinvented the way families interact with their vehicles, we’ve grown into a proud and successful, challenger automotive brand loved by many…In the next 40 years, we will continue to challenge, we will continue to innovate, we will continue to deliver on the expectations of our extremely loyal owner and enthusiast community, and we will surprise and excite a new generation of Mitsubishi Motors customers.” – Yoichi Yokozawa, Mitsubishi Motors North America President and CEO

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Motors Corp (MMC) as a whole, has operated in America for over 30 years, starting with Fountain Valley, California, then in Cypress, California for more than 30 years, and opened its new base of operations in Franklin, Tennessee in 2019, firmly making TN the now home for MMNA when the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020. Multiple times throughout the year, MMNA helped support Nashville and its community by donating to nonprofit organizations and an SUV from their lineup to help transport relief goods and services. When Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, headquartered in Fountain Valley first started, the automaker had an initial dealer network of 70 facilities across the country, and continues to open new dealerships today. The most recent opening was in Virginia Beach, Virginia, adding on to the 330* dealer partners the MMNA has secured across the United States.

To celebrate 40 years, the automaker has planned special Anniversary Editions of its top-selling new 2022 Outlander SUV. Currently the highlight of the lineup, with the flashy “Thunderstruck” campaign, and winning awards, the Mitsubishi Outlander is definitely in the spotlight for this automaker. The upcoming Anniversary Edition will come with special features and badging, all at a great value (price to be announced at a later date). There isn’t a whole lot of information on what these Anniversary Edition Outlander models will look like or what those special features are just yet, but we think this will be a mighty send off for when the new flagship of the automaker comes to light, the Eclipse Cross PHEV.
