The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander isn’t just all new. It’s also the new generation of the well-known SUV and flagship of the automaker. Automotive journalists and publications are rounding up the awards for the year, and the 2022 Outlander keeps landing in the winner’s circle.
Safety and Interior Excellence
Almost all happening at once, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander with a TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+), the highest safety rating a vehicle can get, for drivers wondering about how safe this SUV could be. For cabin comfort and technology, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander also secured a spot on the WardsAuto 10 Best Interiors List.
Victory & Reseda Names Outlander “Vehicle of the Year”
Most recently, the online publication Victory & Reseda awarded the Outlander another accolade – “Vehicle of the Year.”
Victory & Reseda may not be as well-known as Kelley Blue Book (KBB), Autotrader, or Car and Driver, but like all of these names, they spend most of the year reviewing all the new vehicles to be released. Afterward, it’s time to put together “Best of” lists and other awards. In the 15-year history of the “Vehicle of the Year” by Victory & Reseda, this marks Mitsubishi’s first win. The 2022 Outlander took down the Ford F-150, Genesis GV70, Kia Carnival, and Toyota Camry while competing for this one.
A Multi-faceted Evaluation Process
Victory & Reseda comes to this conclusion by employing multiple scoring methods. Over the last 12 months (November 1, 2020-October 31, 2021), each vehicle in the competition received an objective evaluation by editorial staff across eight categories:
- Driveline
- Driving dynamics
- Design
- Comfort
- Technology
- Safety
- Efficiency
- Value
Each category can award up to five points, with the highest total score of 40 points. The second test is a subjective score from a panel of independent automotive media and influencers, ranking vehicles first through third. Lastly, the publication factors in social media traffic and engagement across its Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok profiles, and its own website.
It all comes down to just five vehicles, and those with the highest overall scores move on to the final vote. Consumers get a chance to give a little input this time around. All five finalists are placed on the publication’s site for a one-day-only vote. Of course, the vehicle that earns the most votes will be crowned “Vehicle of the Year,” and surprise, surprise – the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander earned 83 percent of all votes tallied. Now that’s a landslide victory.
