Mitsubishi Motors Continues Small Batch – Big Impact Initiative with Tucker’s House
Back in 2018/2019, the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced its “Small Batch – Big Impact” initiative. Based on the idea that making small, localized efforts to better its community would lead to much larger impacts for the people involved, it all started with producing small batches of various models on the lineup and then donating them to nonprofit organizations already doing a wonderful job helping their fellow man (or woman, or child). Every year, the automaker does a little something to help out its community and the nonprofits in various states in the U.S. The most recent effort this year (2023) is also a part of the MMNA’s Community Utility Vehicle (CUV) program, donating a vehicle to Tucker’s House, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps design and remodel homes for Tennesseans with disabilities.
“The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will play a critical role in our efforts to modify homes for Tennesseans under 21 with disabilities…We are grateful to be chosen by Mitsubishi Motors to be part of their Community Utility Vehicle Program.” – Graham Honeycutt, Tucker’s House Executive Director
What a great thing to do. Becoming disabled or losing mobility can be a challenging and traumatic experience for people to go through. Having to learn how to operate and move around their own home can be an exhausting endeavor, not to mention costly. Tucker’s House makes the transition a little easier for some people, primarily children and young adults with disabilities, and their families by modifying their home to make it not only safer, but also more accessible to the mobile-handicapped. A lot of things actually go into the retrofitting of homes by Tucker’s House.
Modifications such as installing ramps and modifying bathrooms and doorways to be wheelchair accessible are just that start of changes Tucker’s House will make to a home. Going above and beyond, the nonprofit will even install wall lifts and replace carpets with solid flooring for wheelchair accessibility are among some of the accessibility adaptations made to the home. Changing the home isn’t the only part of the process. Becoming acclimated and learning to utilize the new medications can be challenging, and that’s why a therapist is hired to oversee every phase of adaptive equipment selection, installation, and training. It’s nice that people don’t need a manual to learn how to get around their own home.
The three-row Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid SUV is a great choice to loan/donate to Tucker’s House. Just think of all the materials and equipment needed to make all of those modifications. How much travel does the nonprofit do back and forth between local hardware stores and the house/destination? Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offers 38 miles of all-electric range (AER), saving the Tucker’s House on gas for one thing. Carrying all that equipment around can be a little shaky on bumpy roads, but that’s why pretty much every Mitsubishi model, the Outlander PHEV included, comes equipped with the automaker’s own Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive for performance in varying road conditions.
Tucker’s House may be one of the most recent, but Mitsubishi Motors has done a lot more in recent years. One of the first entries was to Team Record the Journey, a nonprofit-based organization on helping active duty soldiers acclimate to regular civilian life when they return home, by donating a modified Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross after the 2019 Rebelle Rally. In 2020, Mitsubishi Motors helped out with Nashville’s community relief efforts after tornadoes hit in March 2020 by donating an Outlander PHEV to Nashville’s Community Resource Center. In the same year, Mitsubishi Motors expanded this initiative to small businesses to increase their outreach and to get other companies involved to help their local communities – the Small Batch – Big Ideas Entrepreneur Network.
