It’s finally October 2024, and we all know what that means. It’s time to get a little spooky and live out the fantasy of being someone else for once. Are you a witch, a ghost, or anyone else, real or fantasy? Halloween is the time to become someone new for a night, but what about the families with kids too young to go out with friends or trick-or-treating in general? That’s exactly why the Trunk-or-Treat Party concept was formed.

What is a Trunk-or-Treat Party? A tradition that has quickly grown in popularity, a Trunk-or-Treat Party is a Halloween event designed for younger age groups to have a fun and safe Halloween experience. Like the name says, instead of having children go to stranger’s houses and asking for candy, we have them dress up and collect candy from the back of a car. Not as creepy, right? Just make sure you’re familiar with anyone who volunteers to help with hosting the party.

This can be a great group activity for the family from beginning to end. We don’t just want kids to walk between boring cars in a line, do we? No way! We need to decorate and design these cars to look spooky. We don’t need guts and blood everywhere, but we should get a little creative. Maybe some spider webs in a small trunk are enough. Maybe adding mods and ornaments to a hatchback can make use of the space for a little more atmosphere.

Decorating the car together can be a great bonding moment for families. Then comes the arrangement of the cars. There has to be a park nearby, right? Some people keep it simple with cars in a line or a circle, or a made up path between them with Halloween decorations along the way. If this is your first Trunk-or-Treat Party, you want it to be legendary. Design a scavenger hunt course with spooky decorations and car trunks full of candy at every major spot along a map/ Now that sounds like a Trunk-or-Treat Party everyone will be talking about.

What kind of party just has food and refreshments? Maybe that’s enough for the adults who just want to mingle and chill, but kids need to be kept active – especially after the impending sugar rush that’s about to happen. No party is complete without some games. A little Google search can help with that. We looked up “Halloween party games for kids”, and things like pumpkin carving, the toilet paper mummy game, and the ol’ faithful piñata are just some of the suggestions out there.

Now that we have a party for the kids, what about the adults? Nothing a little dress up and adult drinks won’t fix. Unless one of those hardcore organizer coaches, there is plenty of time to mingle and chat with old friends or make some new friends. It takes a village to raise a child, so get out there and start organizing your Trunk-or-Treat Party today! We always like to see what or readers come up with, so be sure to share some photos of your Trunk-or-Treat Party on University Mitsubishi social media.
