The Outlander SEL is a 2019 Top Safety Pick
Accolades continue to trickle in for Mitsubishi Motors as we round out the 2018 model year. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) just named the Mitsubishi Outlander SEL as a Top Safety Pick winner when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlight package. This is the sixth year in a row that the Outlander achieves an IIHS top safety rating, a testament to the brand’s nonstop growth and innovation as it attempts to cement itself as a leading automaker once more. IIHS is a non-profit organization that independently researches, evaluates, and assesses safety ratings in crash testing of production vehicles.
In order for vehicles to earn 2019 Top Safety Pick status, they’ve got to earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraint tests, and passenger-side small overlap front test. Additionally, vehicles must earn an advanced or superior rating when it comes to front crash prevention and a moderate or good headlight rating. Continuously earning this honor is a vote of confidence for the Mitsubishi Outlander SEL as it offers features that no other crossovers in its class do.
The SEL Touring Package includes advanced safety features such as Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams headlights, Rear Cross Traffic Alerts, Lane Change Assist, and a multi-view camera system. Other safety features such as Active Stability Control and Traction Control Logic also come standard, while seven airbags, Hill Start Assist, an electric parking brake with auto hold, and an Anti-Lock braking system with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution all round out an exceptional safety package. Drivers and passengers alike can travel comfortably knowing that Outlander SEL is more than capable of covering in any gaps in human judgment while driving.
Mark Chaffin, the Chief Operating Officer of Mitsubishi Motors North America, acknowledged this latest accolade saying: “Earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick is a key reason for customers to place the Outlander at the top of their shopping list, proving it one of the most competitive vehicles in the incredibly popular compact SUV segment. As an engineering-focused company, we build safety, quality, and dependability into every one of our vehicles.”
Mitsubishi Motors North America has approximately 355 dealer partners across the U.S. as they continue to research, develop, and market new vehicles and automotive technologies. The brand continues to make strides with its industry-leading knowledge in battery-electric vehicles (EV) after the introduction of their Outlander PHEV model to the U.S. market. 2018 marks Mitsubishi’s sixth consecutive year of sales growth.
