This year has felt like it’s going by much slower than past years. Lots of things are happening. Things are coming and going. Like the Mitsubishi Mirage. Known as the most affordable car in America, the Mitsubishi Mirage is going to disappear. This fuel-efficient hatchback has been a staple of the Mitsubishi Motors lineup for years, but was discontinued in 2023 to make room for a new core model being added to the lineup. So far, all Mitsubishi Motors has brought to the states is SUVs. The Mirage lineup was unique, and we’re sad to see it go. Here are some of the highlights of owning a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage, the last model year for the hatchback, and presumably the Mirage G4 sedan.

Starting with a nice price range, the 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage has a starting MSRP of $18,895 (plus destination fee). Mitsubishi Motors may be missing out on its old-school rally days, but the automaker did put more focus on the engineering of new models to make them more like the original GT Gran Turismo – a car that can drive the distance and keeps the driver and passengers comfortable. Powered by a 1.2L MIVEC DOHC engine, capable of generating 78 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque, the Mitsubishi Mirage is known as the most fuel-efficient hatchback powered by gasoline on the market, with a fuel economy of 36 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway.

The exterior is a little basic with LED taillights and a tonneau cover the only standard features. If looking for more upscale features, the Special Edition (SE) trim adds automatic headlights, exterior mirrors with turn signal indicators, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, chrome wheel locks, and of course, SE badging. Like many other automakers, Mitsubishi wanted to give the Mirage a darker look with a blacked-out appearance. This included a “Black Edition” badge in case the black wheel locks and lug nuts, a black roof spoiler, and black side mirrors weren’t clear enough. The standard wheel size is 14-inch alloy wheels, but 15-inch alloy wheels are equipped for the SE and Black Edition (BE) trims.

Inside, a six-way adjustable driver seat, a four-way adjustable passenger seat, and automatic climate control fit the bill for a comfortable ride. Cloth upholstery is the standard, but to make this cabin even more comfortable, the SE and BE trims come with synthetic leather-trimmed heated front seats. For a better grip, the steering wheel and gear shift knob are also wrapped in leather. For the BE trim, the A/C vent and center console trim are black. Like the song, all you’re gonna see is black when you get behind the wheel of a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage Black Edition. In a turn of events, the stitching on the gear shift knob of the BE trim is red.

We’re waiting on the Android operating system (OS) Google and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance are supposed to introduce to the lineup, starting in 2025. Sadly, the Mitsubishi Mirage won’t see it happen, but it did come with a Google-friendly infotainment system. All 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage trims came with a 7-inch smartphone-link display audio system, capable of Bluetooth wireless tech, Apple CarPlay, and Google Android Auto. Steering wheel audio and phone controls, and steering wheel voice recognition control are also standard.

Mitsubishi Motors has added more advanced safety features to recent models, but the Mirage is a little basic here too. Forward Collision Mitigation system with Pedestrian Detection is standard, with Lane Departure Warning found only on the SE trim. The Mitsubishi Mirage has great value, and a great warranty to keep it running for years. All Mitsubishi vehicles are covered by a basic limited warranty for 5 years/60,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles, 7 years or 100,000 miles of anti-corrosion coverage, and roadside assistance.
