The 2022 Lexus RX Is Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

May 1st, 2023 by

The Lexus RX is a premium midsize SUV/crossover that has been the best-selling luxury vehicle in the United States for years. It is a reliable, useful, classy, comfortable, and well-built vehicle that offers a regular drivetrain or a hybrid setup, as well as a 5-seater configuration or an extended-wheelbase variant with a third seating row to accommodate seven occupants. This 2022 model is known for its coziness, quiet cabin, and general composure, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a smooth and efficient ride.

Engine

The RX 350/RX 350L models are powered by a smooth and efficient 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower. In its default configuration, the engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that transfers power to the front wheels (FWD). However, drivers can also opt for all-wheel drive (AWD).

The RX 450h/RX 450hL models are hybrid versions that incorporate three electric motors with their 3.5-liter V6 engine. The first electric motor drives the rear wheels, while another collaborates with the V6 engine to power the front wheels, resulting in a standard electric all-wheel drive. The third electric motor performs stop/restart operations and acts as a generator.

The combined power output of the RX 450h/RX 450hL hybrids is 308 horsepower, although Lexus does not provide a specific torque figure for these models. The continuously variable transmission is used in these models, and both the V6 engines demand premium-grade gasoline.

Regardless of the type of drivetrain, the towing capacity of the vehicle is 3,500 pounds.

Interior

There are no complaints about the space or comfort provided by the RX models. The RX L models come with a power-folding third-row seat suitable for small children, and the option of captain’s chairs for the second row. However, the standard 5-seater version offers better legroom.

The cargo capacity of the RX varies based on the length of the wheelbase and the type of drivetrain. In the standard RX 350, there is 16 cubic feet of cargo space behind the 40/20/40 split/folding rear seats, which expands to 32.6 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. The RX 350L, which has a longer wheelbase and three rows of seats, offers 6.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 23 cubic feet behind the second row, and a total of 58.5 cubic feet with both rear rows folded down. However, due to the presence of hybrid hardware, the cargo space in the RX 450h and 450hL models may be somewhat compromised.

Standard Features

Starting with the 2022 RX 350, this high-end midsize crossover is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and ignition, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, simulated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a self-dimming rearview mirror with a garage door opener, and a powered tailgate.

The RX 350’s infotainment system features an 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity, voice control, six USB ports, and a 9-speaker audio system.

The RX 350 is equipped with a comprehensive set of safety features, such as forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Additionally, there are 10 airbags to protect passengers in case of a collision.
