The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas Is Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas checks all of the boxes for a mid-size crossover SUV. This vehicle provides plenty of room, even in the third row. Its family-oriented makeup and dynamic in-car features are exactly why it’s been picked as Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

Engine and Performance

The 2019 Atlas SUV has two excellent powertrains to work with, the first is a turbocharged 2.0 L engine with 4 cylinders, it has a peppy output of 234 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The second option is a 3.6-L V6, it has an even better output of 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Both motors are matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system also has modes for several conditions, along with on-road driving models ranging from Eco, Normal, and Sport.

The Atlas drives like a dream but even more when it’s in Sports Mode. When switching to this operation the steering and throttle responses are sharpened, and the transmission shift points are also raised. This selection is also applicable while the adaptive cruise control system is utilized.

Exterior

The exterior of the Volkswagen Atlas is spacious on the inside, yet still manages to fit inside of an average size garage. The rear passenger doors are quite large and open nice and wide as one enters and exits the vehicle. The standard wheels measure up to 18 inches and 20 inches on higher trims. The overall style is a delightful blend of rugged and sophisticated.

Interior

The inside is a bit more upscale. The second row is able to fold and slide forward, and that’s even when child seats are fitted, allowing proper accommodation for seven occupants, or six if that particular model has 2nd-row captain’s chairs. In the standard Atlas, the second and third-row seats will fold, creating a flat load-space floor. All the way back, there is a liberal 20.6 cubic feet of luggage space, which can expand to 96.8 cubes.

Standard Features

Standard niceties amount to forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rain-sensing wipers, automatic LED headlights, and heated side mirrors. Other features include cloth upholstery, roof rails, dual-zone automatic climate control, 6.5-inch infotainment touch screen, USB port, Bluetooth, rearview camera, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, and a 6-speaker audio system.

Meanwhile, you also get safety features like six airbags, automatic post-collision braking, and VW’s Intelligent Crash Response System, which is responsible for cutting the fuel supply, unlocking the doors and activating the hazard lights if you find yourself in a crash.
