Intro

The pioneering Ford company still proves that it has creative and revolutionary ideas, as well as capable executions, especially when it comes to its Ford Edge midsize SUV. For their 2019 model, we saw incredible updates, especially with the ST trim’s 335 horsepower from its EcoBoost engine. It’s also known for its incredible balance of comfort and accuracy, along with many interior comforts. These positive attributes for this crossover made it the perfect pick for Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

Engine and Drive

The 2019 Ford Edge doesn’t even make a slow-running powertrain an option for this model year. SE, SEL, and Titanium Edge models are all geared with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 4-cylinders. This motor has an output of 250 horsepower with 275 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with automatic stop/start technology to help save fuel while sitting at a stoplight. The ST SUV then really spices things up with its 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine. This model has an output of 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

Both powertrains are matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission, but the ST also gets paddle shifters that are mounted onto the steering wheel. V6 buyers also get all-wheel-drive as a standard, while the lower models will only get this system as an optional feature. Towing power also rates to 3,5000 lbs.

Driving with the standard 2.0-liter will keep you more than satisfied with power and overall stability. However, the ST is far more advanced in its driving capabilities. Power comes quick with this EcoBoost engine, and the 8-speed helps to create sporty shifts. This model also does well with cutting tight corners and has a minimal amount of body roll.

Exterior

The outer body rocks charming features like standard LED headlights, alloy wheels, 18-inch rims, and color choices like Ruby Red, Baltic Sea Green, Agate Black, Burgundy Velvet, Ingot Silver, White Platinum, Blue Metallic, Stone Gray, and Magnetic. The ST then gets a major beautification with an extra color choice (Performance Blue), a gloss black grille and matching fog-light surrounds, black bezels in the headlights, and dual-exhaust outlets.

Interior and Standard Features

Moving inside, you’ll be welcomed with a delightful rotary gear selector that provides more space in the center console for the storage areas. There is also an available wireless charging device on the SEL trim and a standard feature on the Titanium trim. An 8-inch touchscreen will be found on all Edge models, and there is also a fully-digitalized instrument cluster on the ST. The high-grade model also has a special type of bolstering and inserts that resemble suede. Regardless of the trim, the cabin is plentiful in its space for passengers and their cargo, as rear seats have 40.6 inches of legroom. Then, behind the seats, there is 39.2 cubic-feet of cargo space, and 73.4 when the seats are folded flat.

Additional standard features involve advanced safety technologies part of the brand’s Co-Pilot 360, these encompass forward-collision mitigation with emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high beams. The rearview camera also has a water jet to clean any debris off. Then comforts include satellite radio, rain-sensing wipers, remote start/lock/unlock, Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices, and keyless entry/ignition. Of course, as you move up in Edge rankings, you’ll find more features like leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, Sync 3, and a hands-free liftgate.
