The 2018 Toyota C-HR is one bad mother of a subcompact. This week, we’re highlighting this crossover SUV due to its roomy and comfortable interior, and fun-filled driving behaviors. Factors involving the brand’s consistent adeptness in providing advanced technologies like its Safety Sense bundle, add up to the many reasons why it’s been chosen as our Used Car of The Week!

Engine and Performance

This Toyota compact only has one engine available, but’s the only motor you’ll need to get you going. The car rides on a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter powertrain that has an output of 144 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. Highway fuel economy also amounts to 31 mpg.

Around town the ride is quite firm and comfortable, mirroring this behavior on the highway. The car fairs well when zooming around the corner, even when rotating from the rear. The brakes and steering also have some skills that make the SUV fun to ride to and fro places.

Additionally, the standard Toyota Safety Sense is filled with a slew of avant-garde features like a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, and full-range active cruise control.

Exterior

This miniature C-HR model has an almost bug-like appearance with its angular and bulging outer shape, which somehow turns out to be nothing short of charming. Other interesting elements include the narrowed headlights and angled roof, along with the roof extension hanging over the rear glass and the taillights projecting outward from the body.

The color palette for this Toyota car includes Silver Knockout Metallic, Ruby Flare Pearl, Blue Eclipse Metallic, Black Sand Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Blizzard Pearl, Radiant Green Mica R-Code, Ruby Flare Pearl R-Code, and Blue Eclipse Metallic R-Code.

Interior and Standard Features

The inside is much more conservative as it is on the out, but in a way that is sophisticated and elegant. The speed- and tachometer are parted by a small 7-inch infotainment screen that sits on top of the climate controls. The seats also provide good comfort and support, and are covered in cloth upholstery.

Standard features starting in the base XLE include dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB inputs and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. There is even an electronic parking brake that encompasses a brake-hold feature while in traffic.

Those who end up with the Premium model will be rewarded with features like better quality fabric for the seats, push-button ignition and keyless entry, fog lights, and puddle lights that project the Toyota compact on the ground underneath the mirrors on the outside. This trim also includes blind-spot monitoring.
