Mitsubishi Motors finally gave us a glimpse at what it’s working on with the “Challenge 2025” business strategy announcement. Amongst the six models the automaker teased for 2023 release is the all-new Mitsubishi Colt. No longer a sports car, the Mitsubishi Colt returns as a hatchback, and comes with a hybrid option. We were wondering how the automaker would bring back such a legend, and after the Mitsubishi Motors Europe digital stream, we have a little more information on what this new hatchback is going to look like. Here’s what we know so far.

For one thing, the 2023 Mitsubishi Colt will be offered with a hybrid powertrain setup as well as the classic internal combustion engine (ICE) gasoline model. For consumers who want to stick to gasoline, there are two options available – a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, or a 1.0-liter gasoline engine. Both come with a manual transmission, with a 6-speed manual transmission on the turbocharged engine and 5-speed manual transmission on the latter. If looking to go green, the hybrid option is powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a 1.2 kWh battery powering two electric motors. This model will get an automatic transmission, and altogether, estimates a total driving range of 560 miles.

Up in the front fascia, the classic Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield still makes up the look, but things get a little classier with the Colt. Situated in the center of the grille is the Mitsubishi triple-diamond logo. On each corner of the front fascia, there are full LED headlights, followed by L-shaped LED daytime running lights situated underneath those. The side profile of the 2023 Mitsubishi Colt gives the impression of a sports car while still being sophisticated and compact. Leading us towards the rear, angled lines end with LED tail lamps. The rear tailgate wears a new “Colt” badge and “Mitsubishi” watermark.

Although compact, the interior offers plenty of room with seating of up to five passengers, plus the handy storage space a hatchback offers. Upholstery choices are the usual, fabric or leather, and the latter is eco-friendly, made from no animal products. The sporty look of the outside continues inside with a black headliner, and modern technology greets the driver in the dashboard and center console. A little personalization goes a long way, and like many vehicles out there, the Mitsubishi Colt features several driving modes to modify the steering and how well the engine responds. There are also ambient color choices to choose from for that nice interior glow.

If looking for modern tech, the Mitsubishi Colt still features the Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) Mitsubishi infotainment system with either a 7-inch or 9.3-inch1 display. Capable of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, there is also wireless charging. Still working with Bose, a premium sound system is also available to listen to crisp beats on the road. If curious about the safety of the new Colt, every trim comes with traffic sign recognition, forward collision mitigation, and lane keeping assist. High-end trims get a little fancier with blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert. Parking is a breeze with a 360-degree view monitor and park assist that can take control of the wheel. Perfect for parallel parking.

Mitsubishi Motors always offers consumers a great warranty to cover plenty of parts and components. Every Mitsubishi Colt comes with a basic limited warranty for 5 years/60,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles, 7 years or 100,000 miles of anti-corrosion coverage, and roadside assistance. For consumers that choose the hybrid model, they can rest easy knowing that the traction battery comes with an 8-year capacity warranty.

That’s all the automaker has to tell us about the new 2023 Mitsubishi Colt for now. More information and specs will be released closer to its release date, so be sure to follow us on University Mitsubishi social media.
