Mitsubishi Model A Revival
Ya’ll ready for a blast from the past? Mitsubishi Motors is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year, or 100 years since it began in Japan and soon became a globally well-known automaker. It all started with their very first automobile, the 1917 Mitsubishi Model A. To pay homage to the car that started it all, Mitsubishi is bringing it back this year, and with 100 years worth of upgrades.
To make this automobile endeavor happen, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is teaming up with West Coast Customs, a premier vehicle modification shop internationally known for its original designs and concepts that bring to life customized automobiles with cutting-edge tech and unparalleled craftsmanship. For anyone who grew up with MTV and knows of the show Pimp My Ride, West Coast Customs was the group behind all of those dope designs. If that wasn’t enough, Mitsubishi Motors and West Coast Customs will be rebuilding the Mitsubishi Model A on the Outlander PHEV platform.
Wait, what’s that? The Outlander PHEV that never made it to the states? Being made by the North American juncture? Hallelujah, it’s about time! However, this won’t be the Outlander PHEV. This will be the Model A PHEV – maybe a different name, it doesn’t really have that “ring” to it. Either way, the Model A PHEV will have all of the aspects that made the 1917 Model A distinctive, but will also offer the latest in automotive technology, along with its Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) powertrain.
Crazy enough, we may not have to wait very long for this car. Possible to launch for the 2018 model year, the Model A PHEV will be built at the West Coast Customs facility in Burbank, CA and should be completed sometime this summer. 50 years of electromobility and decades of four-wheel drive technology have honed the Outlander PHEV, and now we’re finally going to get to see how great it is. Powered by a 2.0-liter gas engine and two high-performance electric motors, and built with Mitsubishi’s superior Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, the Model A PHEV should also come with lots of the modern technology found in automobiles today.
