MITSUBISHI MIRAGE G4 COMPARISON WITH NISSAN VERSA
Okay, this should be fun. Although Mitsubishi and Nissan have recently merged, the two companies have clearly stated they are still competitors. So, why not pit the two against one another and see who comes out on top? It’s the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 up against the 2017 Nissan Versa Sedan.
Two great cars, both having received high consumer ratings, and both with another variation when cargo space is the breadwinner. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and the Nissan Versa Sedan are possibly one of the best comparisons to take a look at since the merge. Here’s a quick run-down of each.
2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4
Leading its class in fuel economy, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is a refreshing option for those shopping for a new sedan. Not as large as its hatchback counterpart, the Mirage, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 manages to hold its own in the lineup. It gets roughly the same mileage, and with only two trims, a lot of great features are shared between the two.
2017 Nissan Versa Sedan
Like the Mirage G4, the 2017 Nissan Versa comes in two forms – the Sedan and the Note. The former is a sedan of course and the latter looks to be a hatchback. With excellent fuel economy, it almost challenges the Mirage G4, but the Mirage G4 comes out ahead. The Versa Sedan is available in five trims, so consumers have a lot to consider before making a final decision.
POWER
Like with most vehicles that have limited trims, the Mirage G4 only has one engine option, a 1.2-liter MIVEC DOHC I3 engine. Designed with MIVEC, Mitsubishi’s own variable valve timing design, the engine has been optimized for superb performance and fuel economy. Take into consideration the continuous variable transmission (CVT) (optional on base, standard on SE), that gives the fuel economy a little boost. In the end, the engine generates 78 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque and it has a fuel economy of 35/42 mpg city/highway when paired to a CVT.
Surprisingly, the Nissan Versa also has one engine in all trims, a 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine. Like the Mirage G4, it has a DOHC design which allows for better engine performance. A dual OHC, like a single OHC, deals with air/fuel intake and exhaust. A dual allows for less tension during this process and less tension on the engine leads to better performance. As it stands, the engine gets 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. If paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, it averages 27/36 mpg city/highway. With a variation of CVT known as Xtronic CVT, it gets 31/39 mpg city/highway.
