University Mitsubishi i-Miev Fuel Savings Costs

Many people try to do their part to reduce their impact on the environment, and for some people that means buying a green vehicle. PHEVs are good, but electric vehicles (EVs) are better, like the 2017 Mitsubishi i-Miev. It does wonders.

2017 Mitsubishi i-Miev

The Mitsubishi i-Miev is actually an undercover wonder in the EV industry. Based in Japan, Mitsubishi Motors  has a lot of products that aren’t available in the U.S. Like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the i-Miev wasn’t on our radar for years.

Running the i-Miev is a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery that generates 66 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. It can travel an average of 62 miles on a fully charged battery, and it has a combined city/highway fuel economy of 112 miles MPGe due to the extra juice regenerative braking captures. To get a full charge, owners can take the i-Miev to a public or home charger and charge up to 80 percent in as little as 20 minutes if using the socket near the ventilation system.

i-Miev and the Environment

The 2017 Mitsubishi i-Miev does more than travel far on electricity alone. It also reduces a driver’s carbon footprint. On average, the i-Miev  only uses 0.2 barrels of petroleum per year — that’s amazing. Mitsubishi recently merged with Nissan, and the two have stated they are still competitors – is it a coincidence the Nissan Leaf has the same estimated average of annual petroleum consumption? Of course, neither electric vehicle releases CO2 emissions, 0 grams/mile, receiving a 10/10 rating by FuelEconomy.gov for greenhouse gas emissions.

There are also some fuel savings in your pocket. By driving a Mitsubishi i-Miev, the average driver saves $3,750 over the course of five years compared to the average vehicle driver. Oh, and did we mention the federal tax credit, a whopping $7,500 just for purchasing an i-Miev? Yeah, that’s important, and it means the total cost of a Mitsubishi i-Miev is under $16,000.
