Mitsubishi Motors is slowly working towards an electric vehicle (EV) entry, but until then, the automaker has placed a focus on upgrading its gasoline-engine models. This started with the next generation of the Outlander and Outlander PHEV. Then the Eclipse Cross. Engine Types
The 2023 Outlander Sport has five trims – S, ES, LE, SE, and GT. Powering all but the GT trim is a 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve I4 engine, optimized with Mitsubishi Motor’s own variable valve timing system (VVT) for better performance and fuel efficiency, and able to generate 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Under the hood of the GT trim is a 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve I4, also optimized with MIVEC, and able to generate 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) transfers the power from the engine to the wheels on all trims. Most trims also come with the same fuel economy, 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The GT trim only gets 28 mpg on the highway, a small sacrifice for a little more power.
Style
Exterior Features
Standard across the lineup are automatic headlights, front rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, and rear privacy glass. Getting flashy, LED DRLs, LED tail lights, and LED low and high beam headlights are also standard. The ES trim and up come with LED fog lights. The 2023 Mitsubishi Sport S trim comes equipped with 16-inch steel wheels. 18-inch alloy wheels are equipped to the rest of the trims in the lineup.
Interior Features
A 6-way adjustable driver seat and 4-way adjustable passenger seat are standard across the lineup, plus a 60/40 split-rear bench. Cloth upholstery is also the standard. Things change up with the GT, adding a 4-way power-adjustable driver seat and leather upholstery. Things really heat up, literally, starting with the LE trim, adding heated front seats. The LE, SE, and GT also come with a leather-wrapped shift knob and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Standard on the S and ES is a 7-inch touchscreen with a 4-speaker sound system, AM/FM radio, automatic climate control, Bluetooth wireless technology, rear heater ducts, and steering wheel audio and phone controls. The LE, SE, and GT switch out for a six-speaker sound system, 8-inch smartphone-link display audio system (SDA), and add on Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, and HD Radio.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes with many basic safety features standard across the lineup, including advanced dual-stage front airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, side curtain airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags, stability and traction control systems, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, and LATCH child seat system, an anti-theft engine immobilizer, and RISE body construction to protect all the passengers. Advanced safety features are also available, with forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection and lane departure warning a lineup standard. The SE and GT trims also come equipped with Blind Sport Warning with lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
All Mitsubishi Motors vehicles come with a 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, a 5-year/60,000-miles, anti-corrosion protection for 7-years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first), and roadside assistance coverage for 5 years with unlimited miles.
