Engine Types

The lineup changed a bit for the 2022 model year of the Outlander Sport. Now it’s the Outlander Sport S, ES, LE, SE, SE Special Edition, 2.4 GT, and GT Special Edition making up the lineup. The standard powertrain is a 2.0-liter MIVEC DOHC engine, capable of generating 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. optimized with Mitsubishi Motors own variable valve timing system (VVT), MIVEC, this improves fuel efficiency. If looking for a small boost, the 2.4 GT and GT Special Edition are powered by a 2.4-liter MIVEC DOHC engine, with a small boost for 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque.

Engineering

Regardless of engine, a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) standard for every trim. All-wheel control (AWC), Mitsubishi Motors own take on an all-wheel drivetrain, is available on the ES, LE, SE, and SE Special Edition trims. Depending on the drivetrain and engine chosen, the fuel economy differs. For consumers who choose trims powered by the 2.0-liter engine and AWC get 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Without AWC, that number goes up to 24/30 mpg city/highway. The fuel economy is 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway when the 2022 Outlander Sport is powered by the GT 2/4-liter engine.

Exterior Features

Many features have been made standard for 2022, including automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, power heated exterior mirrors, front rain-sensing wipers, rear privacy glass, and all-season tires. The GT and GT Special Edition also add on black roof rails. Only the S trim comes with 16-inch wheels, whereas the rest of the lineup rides on 18-inch wheels.

Interior Features

For the interior cabin, the standard upholstery is fabric cloth. Leather upholstery starts on the LE trim in the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport lineup. Standard features include a 6-way adjustable driver seat, 4-way adjustable passenger seat, 60/40 split-bench folding rear seat, rear-heater floor ducts, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview, remote keyless entry. Starting with the LE trim, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob become available for added comfort.

The standard setup on the S and ES trims come with a 7-inch display screen with a four-speaker sound system. The LE trims and up come with the new 8-inch smartphone-link display audio (SDA) system, offering Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and SiriusXM. Across the lineup, HD radio, Bluetooth wireless tech, steering wheel audio and phone controls (with voice starting on the LE trim), and a rearview camera.

Safety Features and Warranty

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes standard with many basic safety features, such as advanced dual-stage front airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, side curtain airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags, stability and traction control systems, and LATCH child seat system, an anti-theft engine immobilizer, and RISE body construction. For more advanced safety systems, consumers can find many standard, including forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, an anti-lock braking system, and lane departure warning. Only the SE and GT trims come with Blind sport warning with lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert.

All Mitsubishi Motors vehicles come with a 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, a 5-year/60,000-miles, anti-corrosion protection for 7-years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first), and roadside assistance coverage for 5 years with unlimited miles.
