ENGINE SYSTEMS

Built as a multi-purpose and very capable vehicle, the Outlander PHEV has three different engine modes that allow drivers maximum performance and distance. In the EV mode, the Outlander uses only electric power which results in a quiet drive and zero carbon emissions. In this system, the vehicle has a maximum speed of 74 MPH.
When the vehicle is in the hybrid mode, it uses a combination of the engine and the battery. This system uses the engine to generate electricity and is used when the battery level is low and to increase power when accelerating rapidly or climbing hills. In this mode the vehicle has very low emissions and has a combined energy-fuel efficiency of 1.8 litre/100 km or .47 gallons/62 miles.

THE THIRD POWER SYSTEM IS THE PARALLEL HYBRID MODE. IN THIS MODE, THE ENGINE IS THE PRIMARY POWER PROVIDER AND THIS SYSTEM IS TYPICALLY USED AT HIGH SPEEDS OR WHEN EXTRA POWER IS REQUIRED.

The Outlander PHEV can be plugged in for recharging at home and will charge in as little as five hours. In addition, the Outlander PHEV can be fast charged at local charging stations with the charging time for 80 percent capacity being in as little as thirty minutes. This alone offers a great deal of flexibility in determining how and when to charge the automobile.

To further increase fuel-efficiency, regenerating braking, which returns braking energy back to the motors, is also a standard feature on the PHEV. The Outlander PHEV has four wheel drive and super-all wheel drive all controlled from the internal control panel. All aspects from battery charge and condition to environmental controls are clearly indicated and placed for easy access by the driver. There is an additional remote control for external driver access as well.

INTERIOR

With all the discussion of power packs and performance, it might be easy to assume that there are deficiencies in style and comfort. However Mitsubishi has not let style and comfort fall by the wayside. The spacious interior offers plenty of room for five people sit comfortably.
