The Kia Sorento Is Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

March 20th, 2023 by

The Kia Sorento is known for its ritzy interior, progressive tech features, top-notch warranty, and affordable price. Driver’s Auto Mart has selected the 2022 Sorento as its Used Car of The Week due to its four outstanding powertrain options (two being standard), standard 3-row seating, and knockout styling. Let’s dive a bit deeper into what makes this SUV so spectacular.

Engine

There are two powertrain options that are standard according to their respective trim: the 4-cylinder 2.5-liter (LX and S trims) and the 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.5-liter (EX, SX, SX-Prestige, and SX-Prestige X-Line).

The base 2.5-L produces a modest 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. It’s matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and has an estimated combined fuel economy of 27 mpg for the front-wheel-drive (FWD) Sorento.

The turbo version of the 2.5-L produces a much stronger output of 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. It shares the 8-speed automatic, but its dual-clutch transmission results in faster shifts than the traditional gearbox paired with the base motor. Fuel economy also rates at 25 combined mpg with FWD.

Exterior

The 2022 Sorento SUV maintains its previous theme called “Refined Boldness”, merging ruggedness with an upscale look. The brand’s signature “tiger nose” grille easily blends into a horizontal LED headlight design brought out by daytime running lights.

Of course, going up each trim will result in more advanced exterior goodies, like the addition of black exterior accents and roof rails on the S trim.

Interior

Moving inside, the design theme welcomes occupants with its “Refined Boldness,” as Kia would say. From our perspective, the cabin truly embodies that essence. This midsizer is beautifully designed and is only more impressive going up the trim levels. This 3-row SUV has seven standard seats, while the turbo models acquire 2nd-row captain’s chairs, creating an airy and comfortable 6-seat interior.

Regarding the cargo space, there are 12.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, which expands to 38.4 cubic feet when the 3rd-row seats are folded down.

Standard Features

The base 2022 Kia Sorento LX is well equipped with in-car features. It brings along the (previously mentioned) standard 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-4 engine producing 191 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque. 7-passenger, 3-row seating is standard with one-touch slide-and-fold 2nd-row seats, allowing access to the third row. That’s not even including the 8-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Safety technologies are also plentiful, with automatic emergency braking, rear occupant alert, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, a backup camera, and LED headlights, all standard on every model.

Moving up to the EX model, which is our Used Car of The Week, drivers of this car get to enjoy AWD, a turbocharged engine, 2nd-row captain’s chairs, panoramic sunroof, more safety tech like highway driving assist, a bigger infotainment system with navigation, and more.
