The 2021 Ram 1500 Is Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!
The 2021 Ram 1500 is a dynamic and contemporary pickup truck that’s known for its handsome design and modern features. It’s a total knockout even as it goes head-to-head with the likes of newer pickups on the market. It also boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with 702 horsepower, along with in-car niceties like Uconnect and a 12-inch screen.
Engine
The 2021 Ram 1500 is equipped with a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that produces 305 horsepower. This V6 engine incorporates the eTorque mild-hybrid electric-assist system. Additionally, there is an optional 5.7-liter V8 engine that delivers 395 horsepower. The V8 engine features variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation.
The EcoDiesel variant features a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that generates 260 horsepower and an impressive 480 lb-ft of torque. This engine enables the truck to achieve excellent highway fuel economy of up to 32 mpg.
Additionally, the TRX has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with an astonishing 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Known as the Hellcat engine, it is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that has increased torque capacity. The TRX can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 118 mph. The EPA combined fuel economy for the TRX is only 12 mpg.
All other Ram 1500 models are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and are available in both 2-wheel-drive (2WD) and 4-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations.
Exterior
The 2021 Ram is equipped with 6-lug axles, rendering any old 5-lug wheels from previous Ram models incompatible. There are three options for headlights: halogen, LED, and LED with adaptive front lighting. At the rear, the tailgate is damped and includes a lift assist, while the RamBox bed storage offers a convenient 115-volt outlet.
The extraordinary TRX stands apart with its imposing width, being eight inches wider than a standard 2021 Ram 1500. It showcases a distinct front end featuring flared front fenders made of a composite material. The TRX also boasts an aluminum hood and LED lights on the hood scoop, as well as 18-inch wheels fitted with aggressive 35-inch Goodyear All-Terrain tires. Its suspension system is enhanced with robust Bilstein shock absorbers and a 5-link live rear axle, offering ample wheel travel.
Interior
Every trim level of the Ram offers a distinct interior theme. For instance, the Laramie Longhorn trim exudes a luxurious Western vibe, while the off-road Rebel trim showcases bold colors and sharp angles.
Regardless of the trim, the Ram ensures that the controls are thoughtfully positioned and user-friendly. An optional 12-inch touchscreen takes center stage, featuring a large, vibrant display surrounded by ample redundant controls, making it effortless to navigate and customize.
The Crew Cab variant also provides an extra four inches of length compared to the Quad Cab, resulting in reclining rear seats and additional legroom for rear passengers.
Standard Features
Standard features in the 2021 Ram 1500 include an eTorque V6 and an 8-speed automatic with a dial-type gear selector. It has a 23-gallon gas tank, active grille shutters, coil-spring suspension, trailer-sway control, and a rearview camera. Heated, power-adjustable side mirrors are also standard, along with 18-inch steel wheels.
The interior of the Tradesmen includes air conditioning, vinyl floors and seats, a push-button starter, cruise control, an electronic parking brake, and a manual tilt/telescoping steering wheel. The base version of Uconnect is controlled through a 5.0-inch touchscreen.
