The highly successful Sante Fe proved to be hot stuff in the SUV market since its first automotive inception in 2000. This week, Driver’s Auto Mart is putting the spotlight on the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV for its Used Car of the Week. This mid-size crossover is generous with progressive standard safety features, has standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, an available turbocharged engine, as a design guaranteed to stay relevant for decades to come.

Engine and Drive

Sante Fe buyers have two engine options to choose from, both of which have 4-cylinders. The introductory powertrain is a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four that has an output of 185 horsepower with 178 lb-ft of torque. Moving up, is the 2.0-liter turbocharger, which produces a more spirited 235 horsepower at and 260 lb-ft of torque. An interesting note is that during this specific model year, the car manufacturer provided these direct-injected Theta engines with a new electric variable valve-timing system, which served as an alternative for the hydraulic version. The automaker said that this newest system is faster and more precise, while simultaneously lowering emissions.

Drivers will experience a quiet and a near tranquil experience in the Sante Fe, as it’s been made with sound-proofing materials like with the laminated side glass. The 8-speed automatic transmission also aids in creating a smooth ride, and the car’s automatic stop/start is leveled in an inconspicuous way.

Exterior

From the inside-out, the 2019 Sante Fe is a sight for sore eyes, beginning with its cascading grille on its snout. Then, the slender LED daytime running lights are somewhat parallel to the Jeep Cherokee of that same model year. The actual headlights are located below the LEDs, providing a bit more life and oomph to the exterior. On the side, the compact has defined lines that reach from the headlights to the tail end, creating a complete knockout of an SUV. The side windows are also outlined by a satin-finish trim, and the optional wheels are constructed of aluminum alloy.

Interior and Standard Features

The exterior’s handsome style and sophisticated appearance are even more prominent on the inside. The seats are also very plush and supportive for any occupant who steps aboard. Legroom is quite extensive, even for your 6-foot friends, especially with an optional panoramic sunroof. Cargo space amounts to a minimum of 35.9 cubic-feet of space and a maximum of 71.3 cubic-feet. Safety features are conveniently located on the left of the tilt and telescope steering wheel, and speaking of which…

The Santa Fe compact is equipped with SmartSense, which is the automaker’s suite of safety technologies. It involves gadgets like forward collision assist (with pedestrian protection), blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist (with three levels of involvement), smart cruise control (with stop and go), a driver-attention warning and safe exit assist. Other standards include a 7-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
