The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has taken the automaker and launched into the land of success. After some years of ups and downs, Mitsubishi Motors joined the Renault-Nissan Alliance, and the five-year plan Alliance 2020 was under way. Well, things didn’t go so well with COVID-19 and the semiconductor chip shortage, so instead of burning cash on the new models we’ve been expecting from the automaker – such as the vehicle mentioned in May 2020, during the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance digital conference – Mitsubishi is focusing on what already works. It’s up to the Eclipse Cross, the plug-in hybrid Outlander, and the next-gen Outlander to keep the company afloat until the dust settles.

Things were a little crazy for Mitsubishi Motors in 2020. Pulling out of the European market was sudden and seemed like a poor choice for the automaker, and to keep the brand on solid ground, partner Renault offered to produce vehicles for Mitsubishi Motors to rebadge and sell in the European market. Recent teasers of the new model seem like much more than a simple rebadge, and with a mystery vehicle under wraps during another more recent Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi conference, it seems Mitsubishi Motors may finally be ready to release its new vehicle.

We don’t think it’s the new Ralliart concept at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. Although we’ve all been hoping for a sports car with the revival of Ralliart, the Mitsubishi subsidiary responsible for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, the automaker has been firm on its stance of focusing on electric vehicle development. In fact, the recent Alliance 2030 plan announced many investments into EV tech, but we won’t go into that here. Just know that a lot of new developments should be taking place over the next few years for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. As for Ralliart, it’s more of an aftermarket catalog for appearance packages, and hopefully performance upgrades like Dodge//SRT.

Mitsubishi Motors has discussed replacing the Outlander with a new flagship model that will also replace the long-lasting Outlander PHEV. It’s time to move on, and an Eclipse Cross PHEV – plug-in hybrid electric vehicle – should be released in a few years. For now, the next generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander is going out with a bang before it’s replaced as the face of Mitsubishi Motors. Riding with a new chassis and suspension, the SUV is delivering more performance than recent years, and with six drive modes and Mitsubishi’s new All-Wheel Control, consumers can drive with peace of mind that this SUV can handle all kinds of terrain.

Inching towards luxury, Mitsubishi Motors says the new Outlander interior is supposed to cause a sense of hospitality with its spacious cabin. Able to seat up to seven people and with various seating arrangements, those looking for adventure have 33.5 cubic inches of cargo space to store equipment. Like many automakers, Mitsubishi designed the Outlander to be more than an SUV, able to serve as a vehicle for those who drive on the unbeaten path. No matter how crazy things get, Mitsubishi Motors has great warranties and coverage on all of its vehicles. This includes a basic 5-year/60,000-mile warranty, a limited powertrain warranty for 10-years/100,000 miles and an anti-corrosion warranty for 7-years/100,000 miles. Roadside assistance also comes as a plus with a 5-year warranty. While the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is still the center of attention, it’s the main selling point and success for Mitsubishi Motors.
